About

If you are a mom and you are ready to put yourself back on your to-do list then you are in the right place. At Mom Gets A Life you will find many opportunities to RELAX, RECONNECT & REINVENT!

I’m so glad you are here!

Are you ready to fall as deeply in love with your life as you are with your children?

If you said YES! then please take a look around because you are going to like what you see!

As moms we are often driven to pursue definitions of what a good mother looks like to the point that we completely lose ourselves in the process. At least that is what happened to me. One day I woke up and flat out resented being a mother. And just acknowledging that gave me an overwhelming sense of guilt but it also gave me a little breath of freedom – the freedom that comes with truth. I was tired of pretending that I loved this job mother.

Once I acknowledged that I could also see that I deeply, deeply loved my children. So how could I love my children yet not love being a mother? Easy. My relationship to my children and my relationship to the job of motherhood were totally separate. I loved my children and wanted them to stay but couldn’t keep up with the endless lists of requirements I had put on myself to be a “good mother.”

I eventually redefined what success as a mother looked like and it included me getting my life back. It wasn’t always easy but it was an amazing journey and it is a journey I am determined to share with as many moms as possible. If you feel lost, suffocated, overwhelmed or disappointed in your life or your unending task list, then come on home! Come join us at Mom Gets A Life! Register now in the box to the right!

The Pledge

This pledge is for you, my Fellow Mom. Each member takes the pledge for one reason: to stay conscious about what being a member is all about. Carving out time for you that is free of guilt and free of judgment.

The Pledge

I pledge to leave my children at the virtual door to create space for me.
Mom Gets A Life is a place where you are required NOT to talk about your children. Doesn’t that feel good? You do an amazing job talking about your children and focusing on their needs outside Mom Gets A Life. Inside Mom Gets A Life it is all about YOU! Your needs, your desires, your hopes and your dreams — ooooh, I get excited just thinking  what they might be!

I pledge to leave guilt at the door to leave room for self-awe.
Sometimes guilt almost seems to be a natural part of motherhood. We all know guilt doesn’t serve us yet shaking that pesky emotion can be tough. We are not asking you to stop feeling guilty all the time, just while you are inside Mom Gets A Life.

Every tool, article, class, resource and forum is designed to help you discover what you want out of life and how amazing you are in this very moment. Guilt would just squeeze out all the awe you deserve to feel when viewing yourself through this lens. Leave guilt behind. Just for a little while.

I pledge to judge no mom, especially me.
Mom Gets A Life is a judgment-free zone. You can be sure that you are safe inside Mom Gets A Life. No one will judge you (I know this because we all committed to the same pledge!) And it is important that you suspend judgment of yourself. Whatever your feeling, concern or desire – if you can feel it or name it, it is valid and it is important. Share your pain to gain relief. Share your desires because that is the first step to unleashing the power of the Universe on your behalf.

The pledge represents the essence of Mom Gets A Life. This pledge creates the space where falling in love with your life is no longer a possibility, it is a natural result.  It is a given.

How We Give Back

Each month we credit a portion of all member dues to the Mom Gets A Life team account at Kiva.org.   That money is lent to mothers who are building their businesses in developing and impoverished countries.

Kiva.org

Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals and teams lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.

Kickstarter.com

Kickstarter is an online threshold pledge system that allows anyone to help fund a start up entrepreneur through a crowd-sourcing model.  At Mom Gets a Life, we review requests from Mom Entrepreneurs in the U.S.

Why We Chose Kiva.org

We believe that the financial independence of mothers in impoverished nations has the power to combat terrorism in a way that war cannot.  The reason is simple:

When a mother has financial independence she has the power to hope and dream.  And when a mother hopes and dreams it is easier for a child to see all the future possibilities that are available to that child.  And when a child is raised with hopes and dreams and a life filled with possibilities, terrorism is no longer that child’s best option.

Why I love Kickstarter

Funding in the U.S. has all but dried up for small businesses – especially moms who have no proven track record.  Kickstarter matches entrepreneurs with good ideas to people who believe in those ideas.  I believe this will be a new evolution in economic recovery and I’m so proud that Mom Gets A Life is a part of it!

Liamolly Local Knitting by Seema Sudan

Hi All,
So we made it to the “1/2 way there point”.  We’re 51% funded and we’re at 109 Backers! I’m getting a little nervous as we have to reach our goal to be funded and only have 11 days to do it.  If everyone can get one other friend to pledge the same or similar to what you’ve pledged we will make our goal within 11 days.  Please help us get the word out and we will be knitting in America in March 2011.   All it takes is one other person you know who feels the same way about Liamolly or knitting in America.  I’m so grateful for all of your encouragement and support.   Much Love, Seema
